Dental professionals honoured for ‘invaluable contributions’

Dental professionals have been newly honoured as fellows by the College of General Dentistry for their contributions to the profession.

A fellowship-level membership of the College of General Dentistry (CGDent) represents the highest level of professional recognition, and those who receive this status have demonstrated unwavering commitment and excellence in their field.

Taking place at the Fellow’s Winter Reception on 25 January at Cutlers’ Hall in London, the event celebrated the diverse contributions to the field of dentistry.

At the event, a number of dental professionals were honoured for their remarkable dedication and impact on dentistry, and their significant contributions to the dental profession.

Among those honoured were Matt Everatt, Laboratory editor-in-chief and director of S4S Dental Laboratory, and James Neilson, clinical dental technician (CDT) and senior lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University, from the dental technology field.

‘Invaluable contributions’

Bill Sharpling is associate dean (CPD) at the faculty of dentistry, oral and craniofacial sciences at King’s College London, and a CGDent council member. He said: ‘I am delighted to see Matt and James honoured for their dedication.

‘Witnessing more DT and CDT colleagues join CGDent at fellowship level brings me immense pleasure. It has been a privilege to acknowledge their invaluable contributions. I eagerly anticipate welcoming more CDT and DT fellows to CGDent at the summer reception later this year.

‘Furthermore, it’s gratifying to witness our dental therapist, hygiene and nurse colleagues receive fellowship recognition for their contributions to our profession. The CDT and DT faculty board played a crucial role in the process of recognising these outstanding achievements, which were then presented to the college council.

‘I encourage all DTs and CDTs to pursue membership of the college at any level. The CDT and DT faculty will soon offer varying levels of membership that acknowledge the diverse experiences, expertise and professional development within our own group of dental professionals.’

‘Truly honoured’

On receiving a fellowship, Matt said: ‘I am truly honoured to be awarded a fellowship by CGDent last month. The college seem to be making very positive steps in our profession. I am excited to be part of a very proactive and forward thinking organisation and look forward to seeing the college develop over the next few years.

‘It is great to see other DTs, CDTs and DCPs being recognised by the college for their contributions to dentistry. I was surrounded by inspirational dental professionals with nothing but a desire to improve and strive for the best for their colleagues and patients.

‘Congratulations to James Neilson – his work in education for DTs and CDTs is fantastic! Thanks also to Bill Sharpling for continuing to push forward in raising the profiles of DTs and CDTs within the dental team.’
