Here we speak to Dr Walter Devoto about what the course will involve.
Could you start by introducing yourself for me please?
I’m a dentist, I founded the StyleItaliano team together with Professor Angelo Putignano 11 years ago. It was a little game for kids, and then we started to grow bigger and bigger. Now, we have more than 500,000 followers from all over the world and they are following us and sharing with us techniques and ideas.
It’s a condensation of passion, of knowledge, and the capability to teach what people really need for the real job.
For people who might not know, can you talk us through the philosophy behind StyleItaliano?
Our dream was really the possibility to share feasible, teachable and repeatable techniques. There are so many ways to go into dentistry and to teach dentistry. We had the idea to condense our experience to ask other people from all over the world to join us, and then at the end to find the essentials to to be able to get success in the daily process.
And this is why I believe we became the biggest community all over the world in dentistry, in teaching actively in-house and online.
What will attendees of this course kind of take away from it? What sort of things will they be learning?
This course that we call espresso is very exciting to me, and I wanted something to really create an emotion in the people that were attending this course. The idea is really to make one tooth in an incredible, simple way with a fantastic outcome, which is really strange because we start from scratch.
We don’t have any model, we don’t have anything to work with. It’s really unique.
You mentioned that the protocols will be simple. Why is this?
We really learn from our experience and from the ideas that are coming around us that the more simple you go, the better it is. This is a fact we are pointing out all the time – techniques with few steps, ideas with few concepts, something to be repeated and to be done in the daily practice.
Dentists are great when they tend to repeat the ABCD, that’s it. And then at the end they understand the where they failed and how they need to make it better. They need a pathway to do this. That’s why I’m so excited to show it in this experience – we do what we can do in interiors.
The kit that the attendees will be receiving when they sign up will include the white dental composite system. Why do you use the system?
Actually, it was one of my dreams, of course, to set up a composite system. And my idea was to make something very simple, very condensed, again with few colours dedicated especially for the patients that after bleaching they need the restorations. And I believe that we tried to put that it into this box. The box looks very elegant to show the patients, it’s very simple to understand
Really, it has the essential of simplicity. But, of course, we ask for the best quality ever of standardisation today for composite systems, and also the most easy way to polish and to maintain over time, which is the most important part, in my opinion.
