The ‘genuine all-in-one’ composite for dental professionals

SDI Luna 2 composite

SDI discusses the benefits of universal dental composites such as the Luna 2 composite.

Dental composites pose many challenges to dental professionals. From managing an inventory of different types and shades, to the time-consuming task of shade matching. While a universal dental composite offers a tempting solution, dental professionals often find they have to choose between strength and aesthetics based on the case at hand.

SDI’s Luna 2 has been specifically designed with clinical feedback in mind. It provides a next generation nanohybrid composite that offers tangible clinical and practice benefits without compromise.

Versatility across multiple applications

Universal dental composites offer versatility and eliminate the need for an inventory full of different types of composite materials. However, universal composite that works as effectively for both anterior and posterior cases can sound too good to be true.

Dr Jatinda Heer of JH Dental Clinic has been using Luna 2 almost exclusively for two years and has found that it handles exceptionally well for posterior and anterior restoration.

Speaking of his results with the nanohybrid composite, Heer says: ‘I’ve had no failures due to compression in load-bearing areas. It’s a genuine all-in-one composite and for general dentists, I believe this is a major advantage.

‘If I had to run my practice on one composite system, Luna 2 would be my choice, because it doesn’t have any limitations.’

Streamlined workflow

Having a seamless workflow that delivers reliable results is of utmost importance to all dental professionals. Versatile, proven tools make this possible.

Discussing the benefits of the Luna 2 composite for complex restorative cases, Dr Linda Greenwall explains: ‘The ease of handling for Luna 2 is a real timesaver and means less chair time for patients.’

Designed with a streamlined workflow in mind, Luna 2 is easy to pack and place. It is non-stick for quicker, more efficient procedures.

‘There is no slumping and the material stays where you put it. It can be shaped and sculpted very easily, which enables us to do beautiful smiles quickly.’

The chemical structure of Luna 2 also allows clinicians to polish and finish in significantly less time.

‘The polishing is very quick. In the past, we used to spend hours polishing to get the lustre and the shape just right, but Luna 2 and Luna Flow are very shiny, just as we want.’

Not only does this create a faster, more efficient workflow, it provides patients with a more pleasant experience during the procedure and a better outcome afterwards. When used in conjunction with other SDI products, you have one go-to system that is designed to be used together for optimal results.

Save time on shade matching

Universal dental composites take many of the complications out of shade matching and save valuable chair time. Composite materials are not designed to match the VITA shade guide. Yet Luna 2’s shade formulations prioritise VITA values (amount of lightness) and arrange pigments in a logically increasing way to make matching VITA shades simple.

Resin composites can also vary in colour, based on the source of light in the room, but Luna 2’s innovative logical shade matching technology and chameleon effect ensures a shade selection that mimics the natural properties of teeth across all light sources. The result is easy matching and accurate aesthetic results for patients.

Durable results you can rely on

One of the key issues with universal dental composites is the choice between strength and aesthetics, but Luna 2 delivers both of these things without compromise across a wide range of applications.

Dr Heer explains: ‘The primary properties I look for in a universal composite are durability and strength. Having polishability and aesthetics for the anterior region is also important, but for posterior restorations, I believe the compressive strength is a critical component.’

Luna 2 offers a high compressive strength of 360MPa and a high flexural strength of 130MPa, allowing it to withstand masticatory forces in a similar way to dentine. This means that even patients with extreme tooth wear can achieve long-lasting lifelike restoration.

With a truly versatile composite that delivers reliable and durable aesthetic results, dental practices are able to simplify their inventory, reduce wasted material, significantly reduce chair time and ultimately improve the profitability of restorative procedures.
