The UK Dentistry Golf Championship brought the trade and profession together for some friendly competition and networking. Find out how the day unfolded and who went home with the winning trophy…
FMC hosted its prestigious 2023 UK Dentistry Golf Championship at the Hadley Wood Golf Course on the 26 June.
For the first time ever, the day was open to both the profession and industry, making it the biggest dentistry golf event in history.
This year, the UK Dentistry Golf Championship was also supported by the British Dental Industry Association (BDIA) as part of its centenary celebrations.
More than 100 attendees gathered for an individual competition of 18 holes of golf, networking, as well as the chance to win plenty of exciting prizes!
The impressive 265-acre golf course proved to be challenging for even the most experienced golfers, but the weather was exactly what you’d wish for – sunshine, cool temperatures and a light breeze.
‘It’s the best event in dentistry,’ said Gary Dickenson, CEO of Cfast. ‘Especially when you get the good weather. It’s a great course and getting all these people together from the dental profession is just amazing.
‘It’s something that everyone should attend.’
Attendees reunited with old friends and made new ones, sharing their success stories (and laughing over their let-downs) of the day over some sausage rolls, sandwiches and refreshments.
A close-knit community
Once the championship was finished, everyone gathered for some lunch and an inspiring speech from chairman of FMC, Ken Finlayson.
He thanked everyone for such a successful event and acknowledged what an incredible profession dentistry is. No matter how many hardships and challenges it faces, he said, events such as the golf day highlight dentistry’s close-knit community – whether you’re part of the profession or industry.
When we come together (whether it’s for golf or to discuss policy changes and solutions), we truly are unstoppable.
‘FMC is proud to support the UK Dentistry Golf Championship,’ said Ken. ‘It’s very special to get the whole profession and industry together, on a day where it may not be about dentistry, but that’s the thing that connects us all.
‘It was a great day – we had just over 100 people participating, which is the biggest golf day in dental history.
‘It’s terrific, and most importantly, everyone seemed to have a great time’.
And the winner is…
Finally, with much anticipation, Ken announced the winner of the 2023 UK Dentistry Golf Championship – Blair Bexon from Software of Excellence.
‘It feels really good to win, honestly!’ Blair told Dentistry. ‘The golf day here at Hadley Wood has been superb.
‘There were around 100 golfers, the weather’s been fantastic, and the course has been fantastic. If you’re a golfer and want to have some good fun and meet new friends, this is the place to be.’
When asked if he will return next year, Blair confidently nodded. ‘It’s always a pleasure to come back, and I will certainly be back next year to defend my title!’

The UK Dentistry Golf Championship wasn’t the only competition going on that day. There were plenty more prizes available, including the BDIA centenary golf event winner, presented by chief executive of the BDIA, Edmund Proffitt.
