FAQs – how we advise and support you ahead of the move

Practice Plan answers some frequently asked questions that practice owners have before transitioning from NHS to private.

Leaving the familiarity of an NHS contract for private practice can be a scary experience. It’s a step into the unknown. So, it’s understandable that practice owners considering making this move have questions.

At Practice Plan, we’ve been helping dentists become independent of the NHS for more than 25 years. We like to think we’re justified in describing ourselves as experts in this. So, if you need to know more about a particular subject, it makes sense to ask the experts.

In this short video, our experts share their wisdom to allay some of the fears practice owners have about making the move from NHS to private. Hear from area managers, Suki and Kat, and regional support manager (RSM), Jayne, along with our friend from Wesleyan, head of dental, Iain Stephenson.

Firstly, Suki outlines the risk assessment we carry out. We look at your practice location, your patient demographic, how long you’ve been at the practice and your finances. This makes sure it’s the right move for you.

If it is, as Kat explains, you’ll need to replace the income you lose when you hand back your NHS contract. So, she talks about the income replacement calculator. This helps us advise what level of fees you need to charge to make a successful move.

Jayne offers reassurance that you can rely on plenty of support as you make the move. Whether it’s from your dedicated RSM, our head office team or fellow dentists who’ve already made the change, there’ll be someone to support and guide you.

And Iain’s advice is to use the change as an opportunity to review your contracts. Make sure they’re still fit for purpose and still do what you want them to do.

We have helped 100s of dentists and their teams to reignite their passion and fall back in love with dentistry. This results in a calmer and happier environment for dental practices and their patients.
