First complete digital workflow centre in the UK

Your first steps to going digital are now made easier with Edent in association with Upcera.

Edent Laboratory Ltd is the first complete digital workflow centre in the UK to use only Upcera’s machinery, products and technology. Offering dental practices and laboratories an educational hub, whereby they can take the first steps to going digital – with educational support and bespoke assistance.

Edent Laboratory is essentially a demonstration centre designed to show dentists how to work with their laboratories using the latest digital technology that Edent has. The main focus of the business is to create awareness of digital capabilities that are available through Upcera. Richard and Jason have identified three main issues that dental practitioners are facing today:

  • Lack of experienced technicians (which is becoming a big issue)
  • Too many important cases being outsourced abroad
  • Dentists want to decrease turnaround time and gain better control by having more technical capabilities in their practice, ie scanning, printing and milling.

The pioneers of these concepts are Richard Breach and Jason Blackman. Richard Breach is a master ceramist.

He’s been in dentistry for over 30 years, specialising in cosmetic design, and has been considered to be one of the best in the country at diagnostic treatment planning and case predictability.

He has worked with some of the best cosmetic dentists both here and abroad, lectured internationally, before being selected by Upcera to build a UK-based company to promote its technology and products. Richard’s ability to re model and streamline business’ has proved to be profitable and has had great success for the companies he has worked with.

Latest technology

Jason Blackman is a qualified dental assistant as well as a trained dental technician, involved in dentistry for over 13 years.

He started working for the prestigious JK-UK Dental laboratory before setting up his own laboratory in London. Soon he was teaching dentists how to take digital impressions using the latest intraoral scanners and treatment coordination, educating patients in treatment options available for restorative dentistry including implant dentistry and aiding patients through their entire patient journey.

He is currently working in surgery alongside some of the top implant dentists in London assisting the surgeon in the clinical procedures of implant dentistry. He is the clinical manager of Upcera UK, promoting awareness in digital capabilities and the latest technologies in CAD/CAM engineering.

Richard said: ‘We are finding that more and more practices are looking to 3D print.

‘Some practices have milling capabilities already, but some want to be able to do more. For example, Zirconia crowns and bridges, stain and glazing, titanium abutments and all on 4/6 implant bars.

‘Obviously, Edent wants to sell its digital solution to dental practices, but its main focus is creating awareness through education and demonstration. By talking to dentists and their team, Edent can ascertain what the practice needs and help them to move into the digital world.

‘The dental team, ie dentists, technicians and auxiliary staff, are able to visit Edent’s demo hub whereby they can see first-hand the simple but effective way of working digitally.’

Top scanners

Richard added: ‘Edent can design, print and mill for the dentists as well as educate the whole team.

‘So, for those who are a little uncertain about the next step in digital or don’t know how to do it, we can show them the Edent-Upcera method in an informal and friendly way.’

Jason said: ‘As part of our educational package, I will be taking bookings to visit individual practices and dental teams to show them how to use our Upcera P2 intraoral scanner at their practice.

‘My objective is to stay with the practice, to scan a few cases and show them how to send files correctly to their lab or design centre. Having worked with all the top scanners, I am more than proficient in the software and the techniques.

‘This service will be free of charge.’

Highly experienced

Edent-Upcera can offer everything from intraoral cameras, milling machines (both wet and dry for zirconia and metals), 3D printers, desktop scanners, sintering furnaces, MMA and Zirconia blocks etc.

However, it is not just the hardware, but also the software for designing, printing and milling. Edent-Upcera also have a warehouse/shipping facility at their premises and are able to ship products anywhere in the country for next day delivery.

Dentists/technicians can come to the demo hub in Cliffe, Kent to see the technology in full flow and discuss a bespoke digital workflow action plan, tailored to their specific wants and needs.

Edent Laboratory is run by two highly experienced, passionate, and enthusiastic technicians, totally committed to digital dentistry and full support of customers. Richard and Jason offer the education, highly quality, state of the art digital equipment and the kind of backup and bespoke support that we all deserve.
