Clyde Munro opens innovative training facility in 2023 to boost Scotland’s dental sector

Clyde Munro Dental Group has invested £1 million plus to launch an advanced dentistry and clinical skills centre in Scotland.

Clyde Munros’ investment is in partnership with multi-national Dentsply Sirona, global manufacturer of dental equipment and consumables.

The high-tech training academy will be based in Perth. This follows the full remodelling of a three-storey B-Listed building historically built for the British Linen Bank back in the 19th century.

The building is also home to the world’s first Sure Smile Studio. It has cutting-edge technology that will directly benefit dentists as well as patients with advanced clear aligner solutions to create beautiful smiles without the need for braces.

As a multi-use facility, the centre provides a base for hands-on clinical courses and educational programmes. The clinical skills centre is a useable asset for all teams working within the Clyde Munro Dental Group. There is courses and training opportunities for clinicians, nursing and support staff.

Enhance confidence

The pioneering facility will bring world-leading trainers to Scotland. This is the perfect opportunity for clinicians and registered dental nurses looking to extend their duties, enhance their confidence and broaden their knowledge in the industry.

Fiona Wood, chief operating officer for Clyde Munro, said: ‘The innovative stand-alone training facility will provide dentists from across Scotland access to the latest digital technology and world class training courses covering a vast range of clinical topics.

‘This is transforming the industry, and the range of innovative treatments being offered to our patients.

‘Perth’s geographical location at the heart of Scotland certainly played a key part in the decision to unveil our first training facility in the Fair City. It is easily accessible and ideal for dental teams based in towns and cities across Scotland.’

The clinical simulation room supports training across all dental disciplines, including restorative, periodontology, implant dentistry, endodontics, orthodontics and oral surgery. Dental operating microscopes with live video feeds are fitted at each station, ensuring fully immersive sessions.

Flexible learning

The delivery of hands-on courses is supported by access to onsite CAD/CAM equipment and imaging technologies. The trainer can also broadcast from the clinical simulation room into the neighbouring education and theory room or externally to online delegates.

The facility features a nine-station simulation clinic complete with phantom heads. It is additionally supported by flexible classroom-based learning with a 16-seat light and airy classroom style lecture room.

The facility is equipped with the latest products and equipment from Dentsply Sirona. They showcase what is possible in the delivery of care in a state-of-the-art clinical setting to enhance the learning experience.

The education and theory room has fully integrated audio-visual capabilities. This allows the sharing of the live action from the surgery or even beaming in or out live teaching sessions.

This space will be hosting well-known experts including Tamer Theodassey, Monik Vassant and Will McLean, among many others.

Courses at the academy will be available to associate clinicians and employees of Clyde Munro exclusively with a view to opening our courses to dental professionals outside of the group at a later date.
