Eddie Crouch: ‘NHS reform needs to be an indicator of travel’
Nigel Jones, and BDA Executive Committee chair, Eddie Crouch, recently took part in an FMC webinar to discuss all things NHS dentistry. They cover topics from the uplift in targets to what we can expect to see when contract reform arrives in 2022.
Reforms in NHS dentistry have been long awaited. Dentists are hoping potential changes to their contracts that are due to be announced next year will offer something more attractive. And something worth staying in the NHS for.
Many are hoping for a complete overhaul of the contract. However, in this video, Eddie explains that changes next year will only be interim. He also insists any tweaks to the contract need to be an indicator of things to come.
He said: ‘If it isn’t an indicator of travel, there will only be an increase in dentists getting in touch with private providers. More people will get to the point where they have had enough.
‘Many people have been working through the pandemic. They have seen what it is like to work as a private dentist. With no time pressure and an ability to deliver the dentistry they want. Their mindsets have changed. They are perhaps less stressed because they have the ability to deliver dentistry properly.’
