Oral Health Awards – Ghyllmount Dental Practice

Ghyllmount Dental Practice tells us why smaller practices should not put off entering the awards.

How does it feel to have won an award?

It is really overwhelming to win a national award, especially Best Children’s Care.

We are a family practice from a small market town and to win over so many excellent practices from all over the UK is fantastic. We are all incredibly proud.

Did you enjoy the awards evening?

The evening was a lot different to previous awards ceremonies.

However, we made the best of it with a small number of us watching together in the practice with the rest of the team joining in virtually and raising the roof when we won!

Why did you choose to enter the awards?

We entered the awards to recognise and celebrate our efforts. We believe we offer gold standard care and to have that recognised by an external team of judges is fantastic. By being selected as a finalist is great for staff morale.

But to win one is such a great boost to the team, especially during the current climate, because we all need something to smile about more than ever.

What do you think the awards are doing to the standards within the profession?

The awards highlight the great work and care that is provided by brilliant practices throughout the UK that are all striving to do the best they can for their patients, team and community in difficult circumstances.

Anything that supports and promotes this can only be positive for the industry.

Why do you think you won?

I think the judges recognised the passion that the whole team has when treating children. Children are at the centre of all we do at Ghyllmount. Our absolute propriety is to ensure that children of the practice are happy when they attend.

We highlighted that we have developed a unique preventative programme, which focuses on intervention to prevent teeth from ever decaying rather than repairing damaged teeth.

As well as providing excellent clinical care provided on the NHS, we work hard in the community spreading the message of the importance of good oral health in a fun and interesting way. I think community work is something the judges look for too; a well rounded approach to children’s oral health both in and out of the practice.

Have you noticed a difference in patient numbers/in the practice since winning the award?

At the moment the demand to join the practice is so high we have a six-month waiting list for new members. This could be partly down to the current climate and also because we enjoy an excellent reputation backed up by the awards, which reinforces our promise of gold standard care.

Will you will be entering the awards again this year?

No, we have decided to take a year off the awards circuit this year.

Anything else you’d like to add?

I would encourage any practice to enter the awards. Don’t be put off if you are a small practice or don’t specialise in something. As long as you are doing the best you can for every patient every day, that is certainly worth shouting about.

Give it a go, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Good luck!
