Time starved? Become a member of the ‘5am club’

join the 5am clubChris Barrow invites practice principals who don’t have enough time in the day to join the 5am club.

Practice managers and principals often find themselves working a full day in the business. This therefore leaves them having to find additional time during the week to work on the business.

Monday through to Friday, Chris recommends setting your alarm at 5am. This gives him 90 minutes to completely focus and organise the day.

The 5am club

Very often this involves a review of the daily task list, Chris points out. Creating a list of everything he needs to do during the day and prioritising the tasks in order of importance.

Also the morning 90 minutes allows a review of the daily calendar in preparation for any upcoming challenges and to think through the best way to deal with them.

Finally, the 90 minutes means Chris can put in place all the support he might need to undertake the tasks for the day.

‘What I’m finding is that many principals and managers will join the 5am club and then go into the practice to attend a morning huddle with the team in order to communicate those priorities with the team,’ Chris says.

‘The 5am club keeps me ahead of the game. It keeps my mind focused on that which needs to be done on a day-to-day basis.’
