PPE supplier hits purple patch

Robert Sharpe introduces Purple Surgical – a newcomer to the dental profession but a well-established supplier of protective equipment ready to help dentists get back to practice safely.

Purple Surgical has been a prominent part of the UK healthcare sector for over 100 years. With adverts appearing in The Times and Suffragette newspapers during the First World War. However, our focus has been in surgery, rather than dentistry.

Purple Surgical today is a privately-owned UK manufacturer of surgical instrumentation and devices, employing 150 people. Our production facility is just outside Taunton in Somerset. Here we produce approximately two million products a month. We supply these in the UK and export to 80 markets globally.

Trusted, long-term partners

Much like everyone’s business, the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted elective surgery throughout the world. Our senior management team were able to pivot our focus in to personal protective equipment (PPE) at a relatively early stage.

We are a long-term partner of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) as well as the NHS. Purple Surgical was therefore able to access central procurement within the Cabinet Office (CO). We have been successful in obtaining Cabinet approvals (where applicable) for all of our products. In doing so we ensure all products and manufacturer certifications are 100% in accordance with EU and DHSC standards and requirements. Each supplier has gone through due diligence with the Cabinet’s quality assessment team.

PPE in stock

Frontline NHS and private sector hospitals have largely been provided with the PPE they need now. We have therefore moved our focus to other sectors of healthcare such as care homes, dentistry and GP surgeries.

In doing so, we are now able to offer dentists access to our portfolio of PPE. Most of which is in stock and we replenish it on a weekly basis.

As there is a significant amount of misinformation circulating about PPE, should you also need some assistance with clarifying what you may need, we also have a PPE specialist for dentistry that is available to advise.

Should you have unfulfilled PPE requirements and you wish to deal with a highly reputable source, experienced in healthcare, we would welcome your enquiry.
