Not all heroes wear capes – become a sleep superhero with the Mandibular Snoring Inhibitor

MSiBecome a sleep superhero with the Mandibular Snoring Inhibitor. Karen Hiscoe from DB Orthodontics explains how tapping into the UK anti-snoring market with the MSi can help improve your patients’ sleep.

Not all heroes wear capes. Its an overused cliché, yet fitting for dentists and orthodontists!

You’ve been transforming smiles; boosting a patient’s confidence and wellbeing for decades. And, now you can be a sleep superhero with the MSi. Why not play an extra role in transforming a patient’s quality of sleep, and even relationships, with an anti-snoring appliance that reduces snoring and improves breathing?

The Mandibular Snoring Inhibitor, or MSi, is a unique, patented mandibular advancement splint. Specifically designed with the professional team in mind, the MSi improves patient comfort, hygiene, and vitally, patient compliance.

Is there a big demand for snoring appliances?

According to the British Snoring and Sleep Apnoea Association, 41.5 % or 15 million people in the UK suffer from snoring. It also estimates about 1.5 million people suffer from obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). The figures therefore show many are suffering.

Many people see snoring as untreatable and also a bit of a joke subject. Advances in sleep medicine mean we now have a variety of oral appliances on the market to help. The MSi is an extremely hard wearing appliance that is comfortable and has a great marketing pack to go with it.

As a GDP, am I able to prescribe the MSi?

Yes you are. For peace of mind for the patient and your practice, a ready to fill in GP letter template and obstructive sleep apnoea risk questionnaire is available on request. We advise you complete both of these and send them to the patient’s GP.

It is also advised that each GDP offering sleep medicine undergoes a verifiable CPD course covering the main causes and health implications around snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea.

What are the initial requirements?

Simply an impression and bite registration. We provide you with the bite right; a free of charge bite registration tool. This makes getting bite registration perfectly easy every time. I am also available to come and visit you to demonstrate how the bite registration works.

There is no extra financial outlay, just standard clinic costs.

Who will make the MSi for me?

Our on-site dental laboratory, Studio 8, provides the MSi to clinicians. Alternatively, the MSi components are available for your preferred laboratory to purchase.

We also provide fabrication courses for your dental laboratory technicians to gain the hands-on experience.

How much should a patient pay for the MSi?

As with all your treatments, it depends on how you sit in your local market. We would advise you research your area to stay competitive.

The anti snoring market is still largely under explored. Therefore, with the help of our marketing pack and if you adopt sleep medicine early, you can really make an impact in your local area.

Is there a guarantee on the MSi?

Yes, there is a two-year warranty on the parts of the appliance.

The appliance will withstand the most extreme bruxers and will cope with the heavier grinding that other mouth guards cannot withstand. The warranty is there to add peace of mind that if individual parts fail, we will replace those within a two-year period free of charge.

What MSi marketing material do you have?

We have created a collection of leaflets for both clinicians and patients. Clinicians can order from us free-of-charge leaflets, posters and digital images to promote in practice. We also offer reasonably priced pop up banners for your waiting room or exhibitions.

Additionally, dental technicians can promote to clinicians with our clinician marketing material.

Coronavirus update

Due to the government guidance on the coronavirus, we have taken the difficult decision to temporarily ask all our employees to stay at home and close our premises until we are advised by the government that it is safe to return. We believe this is the responsible action that we need to take today.

A number of our team members are continuing to work off-site. Your usual contacts should therefore be available by email. We have redirected our email address – [email protected] – to be available off site, so please continue to use this for correspondence as normal.

Our customer service phone lines have now been redirected for you to call us if you have any questions, or would simply like to have a chat with us.

We wish you and your loved ones a safe and healthy time ahead, and look forward to getting in touch with you in the not too distant future.
