Claudio Chimenti and Michele Tepedino discuss why Nuvola clear aligners were his perfect choice for achieving pre-restorative orthodontic alignment.
Clear aligners are a viable option for adult orthodontics, since they offer the opportunity to improve smile aesthetics without the discomfort and the aesthetic impairment of traditional fixed appliance.
In this short case report, we present the treatment of an adult patient looking for prosthetic restorations, which required a preliminary orthodontic alignment to improve the final aesthetic and
functional result.
Case report
The patient presented with a class I molar and canine relationship on the right side, and a class II molar and canine relationship on the left side, a deep bite, and lingually inclined lower and upper incisors. In addition, the upper left second premolar was missing, several teeth had filling or restoration and the lower incisors were severely worn.
To allow a prosthetic rehabilitation that was able to ensure an aesthetic result respectful of the basic principles of a correct occlusion, we decided to use Nuvola aligners to level the curve of Spee, open the bite, and improve the axial inclination of upper and lower incisors. To achieve a proper alignment in the mandibular arch, the extraction of a lower incisor was performed. Clear aligners were the best choice for this case, since they permit very selective orthodontic movements, the presence of heavily filled teeth is not an issue and the oral hygiene is not impaired.
After orthodontic alignment, the case was finalised with metal-ceramic prosthetic crowns from UR6 to UL3 and from LL4 to LR4. As can be seen from the photographs, the aesthetic result achieved with Nuvola aligners was further improved with the prosthesis, confirming that a synergic approach like the one showed is successful in providing the best treatment option for the patient.
