The Young Dentist Conference 2015 comes to London this Valentine’s day. Held on Saturday 14 February at the Royal College of Physicians in London, the event offers five hours of continual professional development (CPD).
Hosted by Dental Protection, in conjunction with the British Dental Association and the British Dental Journal, this year marks the 10th anniversary of an event dedicated to the specific needs of dentists in their first five years of practice.
The day’s topics are on: endosontics, NHS/private practice, oral surgery, surviving as a young dentist in today’s world and dento-legal advise.
Speakers include:
- Simon Stone
- Raj Rattan
- Julie Cross
- Reena Wadia
- James Foster.
Raj Rattan will address the issues facing dentists when presenting NHS and private treatment options. He will discuss these in the context of the GDC’s Standards for the dental team and also review the principles of effective clinical communications, including the principles of co-diagnosis.
The presentation will also cover the ‘grey areas’ of the current dental contract and include risk management advice to manage those challenges.

Reena Wadia will be offering top tips in the lecture, How to survive as a young dentist
She said: ‘Young dentists are qualifying at a challenging time. There is uncertainty in the job market, less clinical experience in a more litigious environment and reduced NHS funding.
‘My presentation will discuss the ways of successfully navigating through the first few years following graduation. Potential career pathways will also be discussed and in particular, the why, when and how of specialty training will be explored.’
Simon Stone will be discussing best practice with referrals in, Are you referring to me? Endodontics.
Julie Cross will be offering similar guidance in, Are you referring to me? Oral surgery and James Foster asks, Do you see what I see? A lecture on dento-legal advise.

Tickets are still available for this event that also offers the perfect opportunity for delegates to network with ambitious, likeminded young dentists as well as refresh and fill the gaps in their essential risk management knowledge.
Tickets are £130 for Dental Protection/BDA members and £190 for non-members. FD schemes booking as a group are eligible for £90 tickets regardless of membership status.
