Dental hygiene anatomy – in 3D!

Mhari Coxon reviews a DVD-Rom that brings to life clinical anatomy images for dental hygiene

‘This is a piece of software is a DVD-Rom developed to support dental hygienists mainly with their dental anatomy studies either as students or as revision.

It is aimed at dental training bodies with permission to use all images royalty free in presentations and lectures as part of the software package. The software is designed for learning, reviewing and conveying complex anatomy in a memorable 3D format. Specialised clinical content includes 3D views of progressive dental conditions such as caries and gingivitis and detailed and interactive 3D nerve views of intraoral injections. Clinical text section covers teeth, dental anesthesia, examination, face, spread of infection, salivary glands, joints, embryogenesis and pterygopalatine fossa.

The product I reviewed is for a single user but there are multi user licences available. The price of the DVD rom for single use is £145. I have found the product very easy and quick to install. The visuals are very good quality. It is easy to navigate around the software and select images. The information supporting the images is of a very good standard.

I personally would use this in our Local Anaesthetic refresher and extended duties days as it gives a good visual to students as to where they are aiming for exactly.  I can see it being used in institutions across the UK to support the curriculum already in place and in postgraduate lectures by companies aware of the need to present information in as many formats as possible to allow the student the best learning path’
