Christmas appeal to restore nurse’s smile

A weekly newspaper has launched a fundraising appeal to pay for the dental work of a 20-year-old nurse who lost eight teeth in an attack.

The South Yorkshire Times has set up the Operation Christmas Smile campaign with the family and friends of Astra Taylor to help raise funds for £14,000 worth of dental work.

Astra lost her teeth after being hit in the face with a bottle during a disturbance at a pub in her home town of Conisbrough, which the police are investigating.

The paper reports that she was ‘left covered in blood and clutching six teeth. Dentists pulled two more teeth soon afterwards. This week she lost a further tooth – bringing the total to nine.’

Her family and friends have joined forces with the South Yorkshire Times to urge people to make a donation this Christmas.

The South Yorkshire Times’ exclusive about Astra was followed up by regional and national media.
