Top dentist to show off new ‘patient relaxing’ gadget

One of the UK’s top dentists will be talking about a revolutionary new gadget which calms the nerves of anxious patients at an event in London later this year.

Dentist Mervyn Druian will be focusing on patient care at this year’s Private Dentistry Live! Event, taking place at the Royal College of Physicians, London, on Friday 12 November.

Mervyn will discuss relationship building between the dental team and patients and will also reveal the virtues of a new device designed to ease patient anxiety in the dentist’s chair.

Nucalm has only recently been introduced to UK dental practices.

US neuroscientists developed the device that helps relax nervous dental patients using cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) to put the patient into a state of deep relaxation.

This is done via a headset that transmits the electrical and sound frequencies to the patient’s brain and gets the brainwaves to the point of deep relaxation usually associated with meditation and sleep.

Patients also don dark glasses and are given gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) tablets, a nutritional supplement also linked to a relaxed state.

Delegates at Private Dentistry Live! will also receive guidance on how to increase profitability and case acceptance.

Mervyn Druian has been working in the profession for more than three decades and is a leading lecturer and innovator in cosmetic and preventive dentistry.

In late 2009, he worked with all 12 finalists of The X Factor, the performers making their way to The London Centre for Cosmetic Dentistry, the practice Mervyn set up with Ken Spektor, to have their teeth whitened by Mervyn.
