CPD in UK dentistry is a General Dental Council (GDC) requirement for dental professionals in the UK. Dental professionals must complete a set number of CPD hours over five years, covering core subjects like medical emergencies and radiography. Activities include workshops, online courses, and peer reviews, helping you maintain high standards of patient care and stay up to date with the latest advances in dentistry.
Dentists and dental care professionals in the UK must complete a minimum of 100 hours of verifiable CPD over a five-year cycle, which works out to an average of about 20 hours per year. However, individual CPD plans may vary, so it’s always wise to review the latest guidelines from the General Dental Council to ensure you meet all current requirements.
Verifiable CPD is CPD that meets the GDC’s strict criteria—it comes with a certificate that details the learning objectives, outcomes, and quality controls. This documented evidence, such as the CPD certificates provided by Dentistry CPD, proves you’ve completed an activity that can be formally recognised towards your required CPD hours.
Non-verifiable CPD (sometimes called general CPD) includes learning activities that may advance your knowledge but don’t provide the formal documentation required by the GDC. You can record these activities in your CPD log, but they won’t count towards the minimum verifiable CPD hours required for maintaining your registration.
You can get your CPD certificates online simply by completing our Dentistry CPD courses. As you work through each course, you have the flexibility to re-visit test questions until you’re fully confident and pass the exam. Once you’ve passed, our system automatically tracks your progress and makes your CPD certificate available for download whenever you need it. This streamlined process means you always have up-to-date proof of your professional development ready when you need it.
You can easily track and record your CPD activities using our CPD Tracker tool. It highlights which recommended topics you still need to complete and shows the number of hours remaining, helping you stay on track with your professional development.
