Saul Konviser, a fifth year undergraduate student at King's College London Dental Institute, has been awarded two prizes for his dental elective placement in Cape Town, South Africa.
Saul has won both the 2013 Dental Protection Student of the Year award, which he received at the recent Dental Protection Premiere Symposium, and the Dental Students Elective prize, awarded by the Global Child Dental Fund (GCDFund) at the Dental Institute.
Saul's elective period was spent volunteering for the Dental Wellness Trust, a charity that promotes dental wellness to less fortunate communities in the UK and abroad.
The GCDFund launched the Dental Students Elective Prize in 2013 for the best project uploaded to their Dental Student Elective's e-repository website. The annual prize aims to promote global social responsibility among undergraduate students.
Professor Raman Bedi, the chairman of the GDCFund, and Professor Mark Woolford, associate dean for Education at the Dental Institute, presented Saul with a certificate and a cheque of £500 in December.
'I am privileged to have been the first recipient of the Dental Students Elective Prize,' said Saul. 'The GCDFund website is a fantastic resource and opportunity for us to share our experiences and hopefully inspire other students, not just at King's, but also around the world, to undertake similar projects. I hope to stay involved with the GCDFund in the years to come and further support the wonderful work they do.'
