We hear from four dental professionals on why the latest Philips 5000-7000 Series sonic toothbrush is delivering for their patients’ needs.
Before its January 2025 launch, Philips invited dental experts to provide their expert feedback on the latest 5000-7000 Series sonic toothbrush.
Specialist orthodontist Dr Marissa Bell, specialist periodontist Dr Sulaman Anwar, implant dentist Dr Nilesh Parmar, and dental hygienist and therapist Anna Middleton, put the toothbrush through its paces. They were unanimous in their opinions about its performance and the benefits it delivers for their patients’ specific needs.
Orthodontist Dr Marissa Bell thought that the brush would be particularly beneficial for orthodontic patients with either fixed appliances or clear aligners, as both can make it more challenging to remove plaque effectively from the tooth surface.
In the video, Dr Bell explains how to communicate effectively with orthodontic patients about how oral hygiene may need to change during treatment. She addresses the oral health challenges orthodontic patients face and shares her gold standard for oral hygiene for patients undergoing orthodontic treatment.
Periodontist Dr Sulaman Anwar talks about the difficulties experienced by periodontal patients with gum recession, sensitivity and inflammation.
He stresses the importance of preventative care and tools that are evidence-based.
Using a ‘team approach’ with oral hygiene
Expert in dental implant treatments Nilesh Parmar expands on why implant patients are particularly vulnerable to oral health challenges and how he helps them overcome these using a team approach. As Dr Parmar stresses that having implants does not mean that patients are immune to gum disease, he goes over pre and post-treatment oral hygiene plans.
He reminds his peers that the process of periodontal disease around the implants goes slowly and painlessly, which highlights the importance of careful and regular monitoring of patients.
A key part of dental hygienist and therapist Anna Middleton’s job is to help patients develop a better understanding of the right brushing techniques to improve and maintain their dental health.
In this video, Anna explains how oral healthcare tools are often used incorrectly and gives advice on how HCPs can support their patients. Anna also discusses oral health tools to recommend to patients, taking into consideration their gum health, manual dexterity, and personal preferences, but also clinical evidence that help support the efficacy and ease of use of these products.
Adaptive brushing technology
The toothbrush these leading dental professionals are recommending is the new Philips Sonicare 5000-7000 Series which includes three iterations with different feature levels. All brushes in the range include adaptive brushing technology, produce up to 62,000 gentle sonic brush movements per minute and benefit from patented optical pressure sensing capability. Studies show that the new brushes can achieve up to 20 times more biofilm removal, and up to 30 times more plaque removal in hard to reach areas, compared with a manual toothbrush thanks to the new technology.
All handles in this next-generation range offers unwavering performance and unique features:
- All new drivetrain and innovative design makes for Philips’ quietest range yet. By counterbalancing the spring motion within the drivetrain, vibrations and noise are significantly reduced, delivering a more pleasant and comfortable brushing experience.
- Adaptive technology that automatically adjusts brushing around posterior teeth, where performance can be compromised due to interference with the buccal mucosa. Its precision feedback system intuitively responds to resistance, regulating movement to ensure consistent, gentle, and effective brushing
- Optical pressure sensors enhance pressure sensing precision compared to traditional magnetic systems. Measuring applied brushing force by light reflection on the sensor. This provides precise real-time feedback to help users avoid over-brushing.
Differences within the range:
- The 5300 model is simple yet effective. Its two intensities allow for a personalised clean and offers superior plaque removal and whiter teeth
- The 6500 model provides a gentle, effective clean, even for sensitive teeth and gums. The model has three modes and three intensities offering fantastic versatility – providing up to 200% better gum health in two weeks
- Top of the range is the 7100 toothbrush, for an exceptional clean. With three intensities and four modes offering maximum customisation. It effortlessly removes 10 times more plaque compared with a manual toothbrush
- The 6500 and 7100 models connect with the Sonicare App, which includes a timer feature, a visual progress tracker and a personalised brushing trend dashboard.
