How I left the NHS ‘treadmill’

Louise Hunter describes her experience of moving away from the NHS and why it has led to better morale and satisfaction.

Thoughts of moving to private practice or significantly reducing the amount of NHS dentistry you deliver seem to be at the forefront of thinking for many dentists at the moment.

If you’re one of the many considering their options away from the NHS, it’s normal to still have concerns over how best to make the move and to know whether it’s viable for you.

Louise Hunter had similar worries when she decided in 2017 that she’d had enough of ‘being on a treadmill that never slowed down’.

She chose to take her practice through a partial conversion to private dentistry enabling her to move away from the NHS but to still offer her patients the choice to have NHS treatment with other team members.

In this video, Louise talks about her reasons for wanting to leave the NHS, her concerns beforehand, how the transition went and how she now feels as if she is doing the dentistry she enjoys and is able to take her time, leading to much more job satisfaction and better morale.
