It’s back to school time and, for some children in the UK, the good news is their term may start with better oral health.
Over this summer, with sponsorship from the Wrigley Company Foundation, The Plymouth Peninsular Dental School have been giving oral care workshops to children from all over the UK.
The workshops were made possible through a partnership with the charity CHICKS (Country Holidays for Inner City Kids) and a desire from all involved to explore innovative ways to bring oral care education to underserved children.
CHICKS provides respite breaks for disadvantaged children from across the UK, who would not otherwise have a break in that year.
The children they support are often the most likely to be in need of good oral health education, coming from a variety of backgrounds: some may be living in poverty, or may have suffered neglect or abuse, others may have lost their parents, and some may be carers themselves.
The ethos behind these breaks is to provide a loving, caring environment; developing and encouraging self-esteem, wellness and diversity.
Wrigley UK has supported the charity since 2005, through sponsoring such programmes and through the enthusiasm and dedication of its associates, who have been proactive volunteers over the summer.
This activity forms just one part of Wrigley’s wider mission – to help patients to improve their regular oral healthcare routine through the Wrigley Oral Healthcare Programme.
