A career dedicated to community and special care dentistry earned Dr Sue Greening, clinical director of the Gwent Community Dental Service, the Aneurin Bevan Health Board, an MBE in this year's Queen's birthday honours.
She received it for services to dentistry in the UK.
Sue is a member of the Welsh Dental Committee and has worked as a dentist in the NHS for 34 years and in Aneurin Bevan Health Board and earlier organisations in Gwent for 21 year.
The www.wales.nhs.uk website profile reads: ‘She has always been passionate about reducing oral health inequity in Gwent, particularly for vulnerable and disabled people, as well as being keen to ensure the inclusion of oral health within the wider picture of general health.
‘Alongside her work in Aneurin Bevan Health Board, Sue has always been interested in ‘the bigger picture’. She has been active in the British Dental Association (BDA) both locally and nationally and was President of that organisation in 2006. She was honoured to be awarded an Honorary Fellowship from Cardiff University in 2007 for her work in special care dentistry that has recently been recognised as a specialty in dentistry, caring for people with impairment and disability.
It adds: ‘Sue recognises the challenges facing our organisation at the present time and looks forward to the Health Professionals Forum working with the Board to enhance and promote the health services provided for our patients.’
