Dentist suspended for filming women undressing

A dentist who filmed two young women undressing was yesterday suspended by the General Dental Council.

Warren Gater, 32, used a miniature video camera to capture footage of the women in a changing room.

He then uploaded it to his computer to watch at home, the General Dental Council (GDC) heard.

Warren Gater, of Gillingham, Dorset, was convicted of voyeurism after pleading guilty to the offence at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court in March this year.

He was given a three-year conditional discharge for the offences that ocured between 1 Juanary and 10 February 2010.

Mr Gater left his Dorset practice after his arrest, and has not worked since, being temporarily suspended until yesterday’s hearing of the GDC’s Professional Conduct Committee.

He was yesterday found guilty of misconduct by the GDC and suspended from the register for nine months.

Mr Gater blamed his behaviour on the death of his father and the stress of organising a wedding; his lawyer claimed that actions were out of character and said that Gater was committed to a career in dentistry. Stewart Goulding, chairman of the GDC panel, said that Gater’s actions were premeditated and condemned his behaviour, claiming that he had betrayed the trust placed in him by his patients.
