Sonicare toothbrush inventor faces a new future

It makes sense that if you are improving the look of a patient’s mouth; you look at their whole face.

As a result, a growing number of dentists are now performing aesthetic treatments to complement their cosmetic dentistry.

There has been a significant rise in the number of practices offering beauty spa treatments, Botox and dermal fillers.

Now there is a new way to make caring for the skin as straightforward as tooth brushing.

It was developed by the lead inventor of the Sonicare toothbrush and uses similar sonic micro-massage technology.

Clarisonic works deeply but very gently to clean the skin twice as effectively as manual cleansing with soap and water and remove six times more make-up.[1]

Just as you would with a powered toothbrush, you simply apply a non-abrasive cleanser or balm to the brush head, and switch on.

The Clarisonic brush head moves over 300 times per second – faster than the eye can see. Flexible ultra-soft bristles oscillate to massage the pores, working with the skin’s natural elasticity to liberate dirt and oil that causes clogging and skin eruptions.

As it cleanses the skin so effectively – removing twice as much sebum as manual cleansing – it minimises blemishes, oily areas, and dry patches.[2]

Clarisonic gently and effectively helps treat skin affected by chronic conditions including acne, rosacea and seborrhea, however, Clarisonic is not just for problem skin, as having impeccably clean skin can benefit everyone.

After deep cleansing with Clarisonic, the skin is much more receptive to moisturisers, serums and lotions.

In fact studies show absorption of vitamin C improves by 61% after cleansing with Clarisonic compared with manual cleansing. [3]

Other research shows Clarisonic can bring about a significant reduction in the appearance of pore size, fine lines and wrinkles in as little as eight weeks [4] and in one study 81% of men reported a closer, smoother shave with the Clarisonic, with less irritation and fewer episodes of irritating rashes.[5]

As a result, Clarisonic is already used and recommended at a professional level in the US, and now in the UK, by dermatologists and skincare professionals.

General practitioner, Dr Trish MacNair, who has used Clarisonic says: ‘I’m very impressed with how effectively Clarisonic cleans the skin and removes debris. It is undoubtedly a great way to keep your skin looking fresh and healthy.

‘But as a doctor I am also intrigued by the possibility that, in addition to its cosmetic effects, it might help in a variety of skin problems from acne and rosacea to seborrhoeic dermatitis.’

For the time conscious, it takes just 60 seconds to fully massage and cleanse the face and to cut out the guess work an electronic timer not only indicates when the this time has been achieved but the onboard computer beeps when the user should clean the next section of their face so that all areas receive equal attention.

The rechargeable power handle is cordless and waterproof so users can take it into the bath or shower to ensure it adds no time to their busy schedules.

Clarisonic can be used as a part of a clinical treatment and then patients can keep up the good work at home between consultations.

Users can choose multiple speed and duration settings to suit their needs, with added flexibility from the three different facial heads which can be fitted to suit normal, sensitive and delicate skins. The Professional PRO model also comes with a second replaceable head for the body, which automatically triggers a longer three minute body cleanse.
