The mouth is the mirror to the rest of the body. At a time where general health is of upmost importance, early detection of systemic diseases through the mouth would allow for holistic dental care and improved treatment outcomes. We will be covering the novel use of artificial intelligence to detect systemic disease using intraoral radiographs. Boneprox ltd, most recently named company of the year in Sweden are leading one of the worlds biggest Ai research projects in dentistry. By assessing the bone density of the mandible in a radiograph, Boneprox has created a solution for identifying patients at risk of developing osteoporosis and osteopenia. Radiographs not only reveal dental disease, but can also give an insight into bone density, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. This allows for dentists to work effectively with their medical colleagues in order to improve the health of their patients. Boneprox will also be covering their newest technology that enables dentists and specialists to communicate virtually whilst being GDPR compliant.   Speaker biography Dr Victoria Sampson obtained her Bachelor in Dental Surgery from Barts and the London, where she was also chosen to represent the UK in a four month training program at the renowned Karolinska Institute in Sweden. Victoria endeavours to deliver the highest standard of care to her patients through sound academic knowledge and good communication skills. She is particularly passionate about encompassing all aspects of health into achieving a healthy and and aesthetically pleasing mouth. Victoria pays particular attention to the connection between the mouth and the rest of the body, and sees the mouth as a mirror of general health. She is able to communicate effectively with patients of all ages and strives to form lasting relationships with all of her patients. Victoria takes a preventative approach to dentistry, attempting to make treatment as minimally invasive as possible. This has allowed her to be ambassadors for some of the largest dental companies as well as consult for companies on their scientific and clinical advisory boards. Victoria has been at the forefront of change in dentistry, by undertaking research projects in multiple fields of dentistry and taking a special interest in the relationship between the mouth and the body. She has published numerous papers both in the UK and internationally, with her most recent publication in the British Dental Journal being the most cited and viewed article ever published. An opportunity to experience safe, practical and time saving endodontic mechanical preparation techniques using the Coltene Hyflex EDM file series alongside the NEW Jeni motor. The presentation will help general dental practitioners develop the necessary confidence in moving away from hand filing. Key learning aims, objectives and outcomes: • Consider mechanical preparation and its relative importance in root canal treatment • Explain the properties of nickel-titanium and how might they be advantageous in root canal instrumentation. • How do automated instruments compare with one another and with stainless steel instrument technique. • Recognise the disadvantages of nickel-titanium and automated instrumentation • Formulate criteria that you might use in selecting the most ideal automated instrumentation system, ‘The Cutting Edge Protocol’ explained.   Speaker synopsis Dr Dhiraj Arora BDS MJDF RCS (Eng) MSc (Endo) PG Cert CE GDC Number 114701 The important stuff: What’s most important to me (and 100% my reason for doing what I do) is successfully and carefully treating patients and also passing on skills to other dental practitioners. I believe that 80% of all dental treatment can be carried out by all GDPs. Dentists who choose to focus in one area make up the remaining 20% – it’s a question of balance and teamwork. I love a challenge and believe we all learn from our mistakes – it’s what makes us better each day. I am keen to build a community and share experiences – helping each other all the time. Teaching: My love of teaching led me to gain a Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Education from Oxford Brookes University in 2017. I mentor newly qualified dentists and am involved at the London Deanery as a Dental Foundation Trainee trainer. I also design and deliver other postgraduate endodontic teaching sessions. My earlier background: I graduated from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Dental Institute, completing my Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2007. In 2009, I gained The Diploma of Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties at The Royal College of Surgeons of England. To continue to satisfy my passion for endodontics, I completed my Master’s in Endodontic Practice at Barts and The Royal London. Other key things to know about me: I am a member of the British Endodontic Society My primary research interest is in the use of CBCT and digital imaging in endodontics My research “Accuracy of 3D Endo CBCT software for Preoperative Working Length Determination, an in vitro study” is due to be presented at the next British Endodontic Society Scientific Meeting I love to travel, enjoy good food and spend quality time with my wife, Simrith, and our young children:, Arissa and Dylan.
